Biography

Biagio di Miceli is born around 1865 in Corleone, the son of Giovanni Di Miceli and Vincenza Marino.

Biagio emigrates with his future wife's family. Appearing in sequence on the passenger manifest of the Entella, arriving in New Orleans in 1890:

537. Serafina Mule’, 63 (b. 1827), housekeeper

538. Santa Maniscalco, 37 (b. 1853), housekeeper: Serafina is her mother

539. Emmanuela Marsalisi, 15 (b. 1875), housekeeper: Santa is her mother

540. Biagio Di Miceli, 25 (b. 1865), farmer: Emmanuela is his future bride

This record does not name the passengers’ cities of origin, or the people they are meeting at their destinations.[1]

Tucked into a volume of matrimonial records, near April 1891, is a marriage certificate printed in Italian, from New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States. This certificate certifies that Biagio di Miceli ("DiMicele"), age 25 (b. 1865), from Corleone, son of Giovanni Di Miceli and Vincenza Marino ("Marina"), marries Emmanuela Marsalisi ("Marsalisa"), age 15 (b. 1875), also born in Corleone, the daughter of Antonino Marsalisi and Santa Maniscalco. They are married on 8 January 1891 in the presence of Vito Pecorino, Antonino Marsalisi, and Arcangelo Paternostro.[2]

A marriage record dated 30 May 1892, number 55 bis, makes reference to this certificate.[3] The marriage certificate has been microfilmed along with local records of marriage publications in Corleone.[4]

Biagio and Emmanuela have at least two children, Giovanni (c. 1894) and Santa (c. 1900).

Giovanni is named after his paternal grandfather.

Santa is named after her maternal grandmother. Both are born and marry in Corleone.

Santa marries Leoluca Scalisi on 20 September 1920.[5]

Giovanni marries Lucia di Carlo on 26 November 1922.[6]
